Oceanside softball swings past Medomak Valley

WALDOBORO — The varsity softball showdown between Oceanside and Medomak Valley was slated to take place April 26, but weather forced the game’s postponement until April 30. 

In the Tuesday showdown, the visiting Mariners were able to collect a 7-4 victory over the host Panthers. 

With the win, Oceanside improved its record to 5-1 on the season.

Medomak Valley, meanwhile, dropped to 3-1 on the season. 

Oceanside plated a pair of runs in each the first, fourth and sixth innings, on top of one run in the fifth. Medomak Valley tallied a pair of runs in each the first and fourth innings. 

Oceanside tallied nine hits, compared to Medomak Valley’s five. 

Both teams recorded an error. 

In the pitcher’s circle for Medomak Valley was Addie Jamerson (10 strikeouts, four walks, one hit-by-pitch). 

Chloe Jones worked the pitcher’s circle for the Mariners and recorded nine strikeouts and six walks. 

“Chloe struggled with her control today but dug down deep and pitched her way out of it,” said Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester. 

At the plate for the Panthers were Natilie Stewart (two singles, RBI), Lydia Simmons (single, RBI), Aubrey Schaeffer (single, RBI) and Stephanie Morse (single). 

At the plate for Oceanside were Raechel Joyce (double, two singles, two RBIs), Abby Veilleux (double, single, RBI, four stolen bases), Jones (two singles, RBI), Adriana Whitemore (single, RBI). 

Oceanside will return to action Friday, May 5 at home against Belfast at 4 p.m. 

Medomak Valley will return to action Wednesday, May 1 on the road against Mount Ararat at 5 p.m.
