Camden Rotary to Host K-8 Career Tech Ed Talk on Jan 16

Mon, 01/15/2024 - 7:30am

St. George Municipal School Unit Superintendent Mike Felton will tell the Camden Rotary Club tomorrow about the development of Career Technical Education for K-8 students at St. George School.

St. George School is partnering with the Mid-Coast School of Technology to develop the nation’s first PreK-12 Career Technical Education (CTE) program and construct a CTE/Makerspace Building next to St. George School. The new building will include a shop space for boatbuilding, woodworking, and metalwork as well as a Makerspace with 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC routers, robotics, and sewing machines.

The CTE/Makerspace building will not only serve student, but also the larger community through adult education courses, workforce training programs, and partnerships with local businesses & entrepreneurs.

The goals of the project are to (1) re-engage students in their learning, (2) prepare students with the skills to meet existing labor force demands and create the businesses of the future, and (3) strengthen our local economy.

The Camden Rotary Club has been serving the community for 99 years by offering volunteer services and raising funds to benefit local nonprofit organizations. Applications for this year’s grants are due on January 31. Click here for details. Visitors are welcome at club meetings, held at noon on Tuesdays at the First Congregational Church in Camden.
