BELFAST — Belfast Maskers is currently rehearsing for its first full production of the 2024 season, David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Proof". Set against the backdrop of the academic world of mathematicians in Chicago, "Proof" delves into the complex relationships between genius, mental illness, and family dynamics.

Director Stephanie Natale Frus is directing the performance in the intimate Basil Burwell Community Theater, 17 Court Street, in Belfast.

Produced by theaters around the world, "Proof" has been praised for its compelling characters, sharp dialogue, and emotionally resonant themes. The play centers around Catherine (Angelina Nichols), a young woman who has spent years caring for her brilliant but mentally unstable father, Robert (Bart Shattuck), a renowned mathematician. Following Robert's death, Catherine grapples with her own mathematical talents, her fear of inheriting her father's mental instability, and the expectations of her estranged sister, Claire (Katie Glessner.) When a former student of her father, Hal (Tucker Atwood) starts delving deeper into her father's work, more layers of complexity and intrigue develop.

"Proof" will be presented on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m., for two weekends, beginning March 8.

General admission tickets are $18, with a $3 discount for students and seniors and a group discount of 15% when six or more tickets are purchased online. There will also be a $10 Preview Night performance on Thursday, March 7.
