BELFAST — The Womps bring their eclectic jams to the Underground Lounge on March 28.

With music that can range from driving to introspective, the group turns out ever-transforming skeins of melodic and rhythmic motifs drawing on funk, prog rock, old-time, jazz, and country — sometimes within a single song, according to the Underground, in a news release.

“ The Womps’ signature sound is led by the wild explorations of violinist Kailey Zercher and Jason Lilly’s propulsive drums; Mark McCarthy rips out guitar hooks while Lucas Rich holds everything down on bass,” said the release.

The Portland-based group just released Mad Science, their second full-length studio album.

“Of course, hearing them live is another matter, where every performance is unique,” said Underground.

Join the Womps as they jam out at the Underground Lounge on Thursday, March 28, in the basement of the Belfast Maskers Theatre, at 17 Court Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the show starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10, cash only at the door.

The Underground Lounge offers shows on Thursday evenings twice a month along with beverages and homemade treats. Those interested in receiving email notices about upcoming shows can email sashakutsy2018@gmail.com.
