ROCKPORT — From May 4 through 24, the Rockport Public Library will host a show of mixed media drawings by Midcoast Maine artist Jeannette Micoleau. The exhibit entitled “See Change” is Micoleau’s most recent body of work – centering around a window overlooking the Rockland harbor and her daily practice of sketching what she sees out this window.

“The drawings provide glimpses into her imagination and creativity,” says Micoleau’s daughter, Amertah Perman, in a RPL news release. “Each piece is different, as though the view, not just the weather, changes in front of her eyes.”

These small and medium-sized pieces represent years of Micoleau’s daily commitment to her artistic practice and are inspirational in their use of simple, everyday materials like ballpoint pens, color pencils, and even sparkle gel pens.

Jeannette Micoleau was trained at Rhode Island School of Design and began her artistic career as a painter and printmaker. She first moved to Midcoast Maine in the early 1970s, left in the early 1980s, and then returned in the mid-1990s. Upon her return, she took up life as a potter. In the late 2000s she returned to her original love of drawing and painting and has been creating new work ever since.

The public is invited to attend an artist’s reception with Micoleau in the lower level of the library on Saturday, May 4, from 1 to 3 p.m.
