Oceanside baseball, softball slip past Nokomis in walk-offs

ROCKLAND — The Oceanside baseball and softball teams hosted Nokomis on Wednesday, May 16 and both teams were able to slip past Nokomis in walk-off fashion. 

With its victory, the Oceanside baseball team improved to 9-2 while Nokomis dropped to 10-2. 

With its victory, the Oceanside softball team improved to 9-2 while Nokomis dropped to 7-5. 

The Oceanside diamond teams will hit the road on Friday to play Winslow at 4 p.m.

Baseball: Oceanside 4, Nokomis 3

Oceanside plated a run in the first, a run in the second and two runs in the seventh, while collecting nine hits and committing three errors. 

Nokomis plated a run in the third and two in the seventh, while collecting three hits and committing four errors. 

At the plate for Oceanside were Logan Sheridan (home run) and Titus Kaewthong (three singles). 

At the plate for Nokomis were Andy Hopkins (single, RBI) and Gabe Gilley (single, RBI). 

On the mound for Oceanside was Sheridan who allowed three unearned runs on three hits while fanning four. 

Josh Perry worked the mound for Nokomis allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out six. 

The Mariners collected its victory when Kaewthong hit a bases loaded walk-off single that plated Zach Cody and Uriah Thongsophaphone. 

Softball: Oceanside 3, Nokomis 2 (9 Innings) 

Oceanside plated one run in each the sixth, seventh and ninth innings while collecting 12 hits and committing an error. 

Nokomis collected one run in each the fourth and sixth innings, while collecting seven hits. 

In the pitcher’s circle for Oceanside was Chloe Jones who walked three batters and fanned seven in nine innings. 

In the circle for Nokomis was Britany Buber who fanned two batters over nine innings. 

At the plate for Nokomis was Aren Herrick, who collected a single, double and two RBIs. 

At the plate for Oceanside were Abby Veilleux (triple, two singles, RBI), Jones (double, two singles, RBI), Rachel Joyce (triple, RBI), Casey Pine (two singles), Grace Woodman (single), Jessica Watkinson (single) and Hannah Robinson (single). 

Veilleux hit the walk-off single for the Mariners. 

“These young ladies [refuse] to [lose],” said Oceanside head coach Rusty Worcester. “I love the drive and compassion for the game! These young ladies never give up and will never give in.”
