Midcoast 15s slide to Babe Ruth all-star playoff victory

THOMASTON — The Babe Ruth all-star district playoffs began in the 15-years-old division Thursday, July 6 at the Oceanside baseball field in Thomaston with Coastal North, Midcoast, Apple Valley and Coastal West all taking the field. 

In the first game of the day, Midcoast defeated Coastal North 15-7 while Apply Valley knocked off Coastal West 9-4. 

The district tournament will continue Friday, July 7 in Thomaston with a triple-header. Augusta will challenge Midcoast at 11:30 a.m. while Coastal North and Coastal West will play at 2:15 p.m. in an elimination contest. The winner of the 11:30 a.m. contest will play Apple Valley at 4:45 p.m. The tournament will have a pair of elimination contests on Saturday, July 8 with the championship slated for Sunday, July 9. 

Midcoast 15, Coastal North 7

Gabe Aucoin was Coastal North’s lone repeat hitter. Aucoin ripped off two singles, crossed the plate three times and stole two bases. 

Midcoast repeat hitters included Ben Ripley (two singles, two runs, three RBI, stolen base) and Quincy Perry (double, two RBI, two runs). 

On the mound for Coastal North were Cam Daly, Henry Burnham, Trevor Brown, Ethan Brown and Gavin Phillips. 

On the mound for Midcoast were Cole Stevens (three innings, three earned runs, one unearned run, eight strikeouts), Ripley (two innings, four strikeouts, two runs) and Luke Hamlin (two innings, one run).
