ROCKPORT — Mid-Coast Solid Waste, which operates the transfer station on Union Street in Rockport and serves the communities of Camden, Hope, Lincolnville and Rockport, will be working on the installation of equipment near the recycling area, which means patrons are being asked to use caution at the facility during the week of July 27.

The equipment being installed is meant to create a subsurface barrier between the water-filled northern end of the quarry and the waste-filled southern end of the quarry. That barrier will be studied for a minimum of a week, to gauge its effectiveness in keeping water from flowing out of one of the quarries and into the other.

The construction is localized, and will occur along the left side of the right-of-way through the facility. To accommodate the work and maintain worker and public safety, the recycling area will be re-arranged toward the right side of the travel way.

MCSWC officials said they expect the disruption caused by the work to be minimal.

Private and commercial patrons of the transfer station are urged to drive slowly and take care to follow instructions posted at the facility, particularly during this period.
