BELFAST — A man convicted of stabbing another man in a homeless encampment, located in the area behind Renys plaza, was sentenced in Waldo County Unified Court Feb. 21.

Justin P. Wilmot, 21, of Fitchburg, was sentenced for a number of charges related to the June 13 incident, during which Wilmot stabbed the victim in the back. The injury, though non-fatal, required the victim to be transferred to be treated in Portland for his injuries. The weapon used was reportedly a filet knife.

The victim met Wilmot and his girlfriend Isabella Noui, 21, at the Belfast Soup Kitchen before traveling back to the encampment. Noui was arrested at the same time as Wilmot, and faced identical charges.

The attack occurred after Noui, who also hails from Fitchberg, Mass., reportedly told Wilmot the male victim had made her uncomfortable, leading Wilmot to decide to “teach [the victim] a lesson,” according to court documents. Noui’s case is still working its way through the legal process.

Wilmot’s longest sentence is for robbery, for which he was sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but four years six months suspended; he will serve four years of probation, and must pay $400 restitution to his victim.

In addition to the robbery charge, Wilmot was sentenced for several other charges related to the June 13 attack. Wilmot had one charge of elevated aggravated assault dismissed, while a second count led to a sentence of four years six months in prison. For aggravated assault, Wilmot was also sentenced to four years six months in prison. Wilmot received a 90 day sentence for falsifying physical evidence, and another 90 day sentence for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.
