CUSHING — In honor of Women’s History Month in March, Maine author, pilot and flight instructor Mary S. Build will share her story, Finding Myself in Aviation, in a live presentation Thursday, March 14, at 6:30 p.m., at the Cushing Public Library. The Thomaston Public Library is co-sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.

Build left a successful corporate job in her forties, seeking inspiration for a new direction in her life. After taking a flight across Maine in a small plane, she knew she had found her life’s calling as a pilot. Now, as a flight instructor, she shares her passion for flying with others. Her story is about so much more than flying, according to the library, in a news release. It is an odyssey of self-discovery, from an abusive childhood to finally finding freedom and fulfillment in the skies.

“Build is living proof that it is never too late to discover your authentic purpose in life, and do what you love,” said the release.

Build is the 2023 winner of the Award of Achievement in Aviation given by the International Women’s Pilots Association, The Ninety Nines. She lives in Bridgton and is the mother of two daughters.
