WASHINGTON — Lillian Jane Gardner Gillespie, born September 9, 1950, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024 at the Sussman House, while surrounded by her loving family. Her passing was preceded by a sudden decline in health due to pancreatic cancer. As such, her loss was unexpected and profoundly saddening to her family and friends.

Lillian was born in Rockland to Francis and Beatrice Gardner. Raised in Rockland she was a graduate of the Rockland High School class of 1968. After graduating, she married her loving husband, Lloyd Gillespie, of 55 years, on April 4, 1970. Soon after marrying, she became a mother of two beautiful children.

Lillian was an unconditionally loving mother who dedicated her life to her children, her pride and joy. Along with being a loving mother, Lillian was a spunky and witty lady whose presence livened any room or conversation. Moreover, she was a naturally brilliant moralist, ethicist, and philosopher, with a love and desire to share her ideals. She will always be remembered for teaching her children the importance of generosity, perseverance, fortitude, freedom of thought, and the courage to take a stand for ones most cherished beliefs and values.

Lillian loved to travel and take in the beauty and wonder of our country and spend time near the ocean where she felt most at peace. She was also an exceptionally creative person who grew vibrant gardens and was a talented seamstress who designed and created her own clothing. Lillian will forever be remembered for her genuineness, beautiful style, and love.

Lillian is survived by her husband, Lloyd Gillespie; her son, Uriah Gillespie and wife Jennifer; her daughter, Sheena Gillespie and husband Robert Linscott; grandchildren, Nicholas Linscott, Gavin and Gardner Gillespie; and her sisters, Marion Massey and Field Weber.

Lillian was pre-deceased by her parents, Francis and Beatrice Gardner; and grandson Ethan Linscott.

Lillian’s services will be private, per her request, as she wanted to be remembered for when she was living her best life. To share a memory or condolence with her family, please visit her Book of Memories at www.bchfh.com.
