MONROE — Debra Dianne Porter, 61, passed away suddenly at her home in Monroe on February 20, 2024.

Debby or Deb to her family and friends, was born on September 9, 1962 in Belfast to Joan Waddell Porter and Glenn E. Porter, Sr.

She grew up in the family home in Jackson, attended school in Brooks and was a graduate of Mount View High School in 1981.

After school, Debby was employed at Penobscot Poultry in Belfast. She was also a caregiver to adults at the Belfast Group Home Foundation and with OHI in Bangor. In June 2008 she suffered a back injury which left her unable to work.

She then learned to knit and do crafts, completing many gifts for family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, especially stories about lighthouses.

Debby loved all animals and birds and always had pets in her life. She fed the birds and watching them gave her many happy hours. She once nursed two abandoned baby hummingbirds until they could fly and then turned them free.  Debby was a caring sister and a loving daughter and will be sadly missed by all.

She was predeceased by her father, Glenn Porter Sr;  infant sister, Connie Lee; and her life partner of 30 years, Jerry Hendrix.

Debby is survived by her mother, Joan Porter of Jackson; brothers, Glenn Porter, and Steven Porter of Monroe; sister, Brenda Tochterman, of Belfast, niece, Jennifer Tochterman, of Brunswick; Aunt Joy Higgins of Waterville, cousin Kelvin Higgins of Simsbury, Connecticut, Aunt Pansy Porter, and cousin Darrell Porter of Belfast, who was most helpful to Debby.

A service will be planned in the spring at the family lot in Knox.
