    BELFAST — Join the Belfast Free Library and the Wawenoc Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society on Wednesday, March 20, at 2 p.m., in the Abbott Room of the Belfast Free Library, for a presentation by Deborah Nowers titled, “Giving Context to a Photograph: In Praise of Newspapers.”

    Nowers will explain how the discovery of a photograph led to a quest to learn about basketball and the players in her family. She is the Membership Secretary for the Maine Genealogical Society and the State Registrar and Penobscot Expedition Chapter Registrar for the Daughters of the American Revolution. She has published research articles in the NEHG Register, The Essex Genealogist, The Mayflower Descendant, and The Maine Genealogist, as well as American Ancestors magazine.

    The Wawenoc Chapter is a local chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society. It meets monthly on the third Wednesday at the Belfast Free Library. Genealogists of all abilities and skill-levels are encouraged to join. Annual dues for members are $5 and go toward speaker fees and supplies, but membership is not required to attend individual programs.
