Bucksport teen Lifeflighted after single vehicle crash

    SWANVILLE — A Bucksport teen sustained serious injury following a single vehicle crash just before 11 a.m., June 9. 

    Garrett Smith, 18, was traveling south on Oak Hill Road in Swanville when his vehicle failed to navigate a sweeping left corner. The vehicle then left the roadway, striking a tree with the passenger’s side, according to a media report. 

    Sergeant Nick Oettinger and Deputy Jon Shaw, of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the scene, in addition to Belfast Fire and Ambulance. 

    Smith sustained serious injuries and was transported to a trauma center via Lifeflight of Maine.

    The vehicle, which was substantially damaged, was towed from the scene. 

    A forensic map of the crash scene has been completed by Sergeant Cody Laite. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
