“Letters to my Unborn Son: Memories of Infertility”

Author Misha Vargas to discuss Cartas A Mi Hijo No Nacido, March 10

Event has passed

MONROE — Sunday, March 10, at 3 p.m., The Monroe Community Library invites the public to hear local author Misha Vargas, in conversation with Danny Lobo, discussing Vargas’ book, Cartas A Mi Hijo No Nacido: Memorias De Infertilidad (Letters to my Unborn Son: Memories of Infertility).

During her years' long period of treatments to face infertility and pregnancy loss, Vargas wrote letters to capture her memories and deal with her intense emotions. Cartas A Mi Hijo No Nacido (Letters to my Unborn Son) reveals the vulnerability and complexity of experiences that are often hidden in public conversations about motherhood. This is the story of a young woman’s unforgettable journey from desperation to hope, and –ultimately – to joy.

“It is a story that reverberates powerfully with today’s headlines,” said the library, in a news release.

Misha Vargas moved to Maine from her home in Puerto Rico to work for the USDA in Bangor. A dancer, farmer, and feminist, she is passionate about demystifying the prejudices and fears surrounding infertility. She lives in Monroe with her husband, Tyler, and son, Lucas. Danny Lobo is Middle School Spanish Head Teacher in RSU22 and the proud father of two boys.

Cartas A Mi Hijo No Nacido was published last year in the original Spanish edition. Vargas has spoken to audiences at bookstores throughout her native Puerto Rico. An English translation is scheduled for late 2024.

This talk will take place at the Monroe Community Library, 8 Swan Lake Ave., Monroe, ME 04951, and is free and open to all. Books will be available to purchase at the program. Free parking is available on site and in the lot across from the Library, located in the Monroe Town Hall.
