APPLETON — Appleton's Girl Scout Troop 2002, consisting of girls ages 5-8, has made a commitment to serve the community during the upcoming holiday season. The girls have chosen to undertake three endeavors.

The first effort they have named "Promise Pies." The Troop has partnered with the Appleton Grange and will make 25 pies to deliver to Appleton residents who will receive Christmas baskets from the Grange. The Troop will be making the pies Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Appleton Village School from 8 a.m. – noon.

Pies will be delivered by Grange members the following Monday.

The second initiative the girls have named the "Hats, Mittens, and Warm Hugs Project." The Troop has decorated boxes and placed them at various drop locations in Appleton and Union to collect used or new hats and mittens that can later be distributed to those in need.

Additionally, on Saturday, Dec. 20, from 11 a.m. to noon, the Troop will join residents of Quarry Hill in Camden for a Christmas sing-a-long, a repeat gathering from last year.

The girls will select the songs to perform, and Quarry Hill resident Mary Carlson will accompany on piano.

The public is invited to join in celebrating the spirit of the season and the efforts of community-minded girls.
