Five Camden Hills soccer players were recognized at the annual Maine Soccer Coaches Awards ceremony on December 3 for their achievements on the soccer pitch this fall. They are Senior Captain Cameron Brown, Senior Captain Amelia Johnson, Senior Rose Tohancczyn, Junior Captain Charlie Pons, and Junior Britta Denny. The players represent Camden Hills on the Northern Class A Regional All-Star Team.

"This is quite an achievement for these players and highlights the hard work and sportsmanship each player brings to the program," said Boy Varsity Coach Ryan Hurley, in a news release. "It is nice to see five players from Camden Hills represented this year."

Brown, Johnson, Pons, and Denny were also selected to the Northern Maine All-State team, comprising the best players from Class A, B, C, D, and the eight-man teams. Cameron Brown received New England District 1 team honors, one of just eleven players from Maine.

Cam Brown and Charlie Pons are on the first team for the KVAC Class A conference this year. Brown is also the player of the year for KVAC Class A. Amelia Johnson, Rose Tohancczyn, and Junior Captain Leah Snyder received KVAC first-team honors. Senior Captain Brenna Mackey is on the Class A KVAC second team. Girls' Varsity Coach Meredith Messer is the KVAC Class A Coach of the Year.

"Individual player recognition is challenging in our state,” said Girls Varsity Coach Meredith Messer. “We don't see all the other teams play, so to have the other coaches identify our players as outstanding players in the state based on our team's performance this season is a tribute to the players as individuals and to our entire program for performing at a high level. I also find it challenging for defenders to get the recognition they deserve, so it was nice to have Rose and Amelia selected to the Northern A Regional All-Star team. We are fortunate to have the caliber of players in Rose, Britta, and Leah coming back, and we are very fortunate to have had Amelia and Brenna leading us this season."

Charlie Pons will represent Maine on the Eastern Regional  (Maine to Virginia) Olympic Development Team (ODP). He was one of three from New England to receive this honor. In January, he will compete against players from across the country in Orlando, Florida

"A lot of great things are happening in the soccer community at Camden Hills." said Hurley. "The players are working year-long to improve their skills and helping to develop a positive soccer culture not only at Camden Hills but statewide."
