THOMASTON — Several students at Thomaston Grammar School were recognized for responsibly at a school-wide assembly on April 2.

Students receiving the Responsibility Award were: Tucker O’Hare, Jack DeYoung, Hazel Sturks, Giuliana Rubino, Mason VanHorn, Andrew Smith, Payton Porter, Hadley Hatch, Hailey Baughman, London York, Evelyn Curtis, Alyvia Baughman, Hazel Dare, Jaxon Hopkins, Caleb Stinson, Greta Stinson, Finn Mullen, and Justin Chen.

Responsibility can be reflected in many areas of our lives, according to TGS. The most important aspect of being responsible is being accountable to oneself. Students who are responsible take ownership of their actions. They make sure to do what is required of them and also to do what is right, without being told or reminded to do so. They take responsibility for their choices and decisions.

Throughout the month, students were awarded daily tickets for being responsible. These tickets were put into a raffle and six lucky winners were drawn at the assembly. Winners received their choice of a prize, including gift cards donated by local businesses. This month’s winners were: Marley Johnson, Logan King, Aoife Miller, Payton Porter, David Alvarexz, and Mason VanHorn.

Greta Stinson also received the Principal’s Award. Greta is a marvelous member of the TGS community. She has grown and matured tremendously in her years here at Thomaston Grammar School. She is known by staff members and students alike for being an extremely responsible student. In addition to being responsible, it is apparent to all that she cares about the TGS community and wants to do her best to support that community on a daily basis.

Student winners of the Knox-Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation poster contest were also announced. The theme this year was “May the Forest Be with You Always.”

Winners were: Nova Clements, Adelina Kuras, Olive Grierson, Sophia Chen, and Diana Barnett.

The assembly concluded with an exciting relay race. Four teams of students, staff, and parents had two minutes to collect as many eggs as they could during that time frame.

An “eggcellent” time had by all.

Next month, students at TGS will be focusing on perseverance.
