CAMDEN — Tannahill Weavers, one of Scotland’s premier traditional music bands, returns to the downtown Camden Opera House, Friday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m.

The Tannahill Weavers play a diverse repertoire that spans the centuries with fire-driven instrumentals, topical songs, and original ballads and lullabies. While the band is in its 55th year, its newest member, piper Iain MacGillivray, is Scotland’s youngest clan commander-in-chief. MacGillivray also plays fiddle and whistles and contributes vocals; he has appeared in “Outlander” and “Men in Kilts.”

Founding members Roy Gullane, on lead vocals and guitar; and Phil Smillie, on flute, whistles, bodhran and vocals, anchor Tannahill Weavers’ exuberant and humorous performances, according to Camden Opera House, in a news release. Fiddle and bouzouki player Malcolm Bushby rounds out this boisterous band whose “... drive and enthusiasm are akin to straight ahead rock and roll,” according to the Winnipeg Free Press.

“The ‘Tannies’ rocked the Opera House in 2022, and there was a clamor to bring them back,” said opera house manager Dave Morrison. “They are musically exciting, and a lot of fun!”

Doors will open 7 p.m. at the Camden Opera House, 29 Elm St.

The April 12 concert by Tannahill Weavers is sponsored by 40 Paper.
