ROCKLAND — One of the first supporters of Trekkers’ recently announced Capital Campaign, “The Road Ahead: Campaign for Trekkers Future”, was First National Bank. First National Bank will sponsor the campaign’s Mobile Classroom Infrastructure priority, by sponsoring a specially-built rock climbing wall for students – a $60,000 investment in the community’s young people.

“This is a really special gift that will enable students access to a physical outlet whenever we meet at Trekkers,” said Brandon Leppanen, Trekkers program director, in a news release. “A bouldering wall allows students to set their own level of challenge and persevere through it with the support of their peers. We are excited to make this pursuit a bigger part of our culture, and encourage students to explore it in a safe and supportive place that they can return to anytime.”

The climbing wall has been drawn into interior plans of the affectionately-dubbed “Bus Barn,” which will provide additional indoor and outdoor programming space for teams in addition to protecting busses from weather, extending the life of each bus, and making bus maintenance easier for staff.

“Sponsoring the climbing wall is an investment in the young people, and in our community,” said Tony McKim, President and Chief Executive Officer of First National Bank. “Students deserve opportunities to challenge themselves in healthy, positive ways that help them build confidence – and Trekkers is just the program to offer them. We are proud to sponsor Trekkers!”

Trekkers will continue to raise funds through the end of the year to achieve its campaign goal. Over 90% of its $2.5 million goal has been raised, with $150,000 remaining. Trekkers has worked with architect Gerald Weinand, a parent of two Trekkers alums who knows Trekkers operations well. A timeline of the proposed construction is forthcoming.

To help Trekkers raise the remaining funds, The MOSI Foundation, at the direction of Gerry and Evelyn Isom, have included a 1-1 match for all new and increased Campaign gifts up to $25,000 through the end of the year. Learn more about the campaign at trekkers.org/TheRoadAhead.
