Anna Carpenter, of Camden, has received the Knox County 2024 Legislative Memorial Scholarship.

The Legislative Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1995 as the successor of the Gould-Michaud Scholarship Funds. The original scholarship funds began in memory of Representative Stephen Gould of Orono and House Page David Michaud. They were available to students attending the Universities of Maine in Orono and Fort Kent. Now, the $1,000 scholarship is offered annually to 16 students, one from each county in Maine.

Carpenter is attending the University of Maine at Augusta, majoring in justice studies with a concentration in criminal justice and a minor in psychology. She is also pursuing certificates in mediation and victim advocacy.

“Anna is doing incredible work, and I am thrilled she is the Knox County recipient of the 2024 Legislative Memorial Scholarship,” said Sen. Ann Beebe-Center, in a news release. “Her determination and successful mindset will carry her far. I look forward to hearing more about Anna’s accomplishments.”

This is Carpenter’s second time winning this award. Rep. Vicki Doudera, D-Camden, House Speaker Rachel Talbot Ross, D-Portland, and fellow lawmakers welcomed Anna and her parents to the State House in 2023 when she received the Legislative Memorial Scholarship for Knox County for the first time.

“I’m pleased to again recognize Anna for being awarded the Legislative Memorial Scholarship,” said Doudera, in a news release. “Her hard work demonstrates what students in Knox County can achieve. She’s a great role model and makes me proud of everyone pursuing higher education and their goals.”
