POWNAL — The 12-hour Bradbury State Park Race on Saturday, September 20 was worth the trip.

Eight Mountain Bikers had a wonderful and successful day at the 12-hour Bradbury Mountain Bike Relay Race.  We left the high school at 5:11 a.m. and returned around 11:30 p.m. The venue was a seven-mile race of tough single-track terrain through Bradbury State Park in Pownal.

Camden Hill had one team of two, comprised of Aidan Acosta and Shawn Albertson, called Team Side Country that took first place. Team Side Country rode for 13 laps for an average of 50.42 a lap for a total of 91 miles.

Camden Hills also had two teams of three that race at Bradbury.

Team Impetigo (Zachary Hand, Zeb Pease, and Nick Czuchra) raced to a second place finish at the last second.  All teams had many mechanical problems and Team Impetigo had more than their share. In this race, there are no new laps after 7 p.m.

Pease finished his seven-mile lap 30 seconds before 7:00; therefore allowing Czuchra to bike one more lap. Because Czuchra was able to bike one more lap, Team Impetigo was able to go from third place to second place. Team Impetigo rode for 14 laps for an average of 50:37 a lap and for a total of 98 miles.

Team Triple Threat (Cyrus Demmons Max Horovitz, and Zoe Zwecker) raced hard all day and finished in fourth place. Team Triple Threat rode for 13 laps for an average of 52:52 a lap and for 91 miles.

“It was a fun team-building day with a lot of bike repairs; all of the mechanics were busy, said head coach Gary Spinney. “I want to thank Mike Hartley, Stephen Wagner, Glen Pease, and the LL Bean Crew for doing a fantastic job.”
