AUGUSTA — State Police have issued a correction to the information they released last week on the Augusta motorcycle crash on September 10 that killed two men and injured several others. Based on new information, Troopers now say that the motorcycle that veered into the passing lane and collided with a pickup truck was operated by 25 year old Aaron White-Sevigny of Windsor. White-Sevigny died from injuries in the crash, as did a second motorcyclist, 58 year old Jamie Gross of Belmont. Last week Gross was identified as the operator who veered into the passing lane that set off the chain reaction crash involving the pickup truck and several motorcycles.

Troopers continue to investigate the crash. They say the correction was based on interviews and examinations of the motorcycles.

The crash on Interstate 95 took place during the United Bikers of Maine Toy Run as several thousand motorcycles were taking part in the event from the Augusta Civic Center to the Windsor Fairgrounds. Family members of both men have been notified of the new information.

AUGUSTA — State Police say Sunday's fatal crash in Augusta that killed two motorcyclists was caused when one of the motorcycles veered into the passing lane. Troopers say the initial crash took place when 58 year old Jamie Gross of Belmont veered his motorcycle into the path of a pickup truck which was traveling in the passing lane, according to a statement issued by Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland on Thursday, September 14.

According to the State Police, that collision set off the chain reaction crash involving the pickup and several other motorcycles. Investigators say the truck's driver, William Nusom, 67, of Hollis attempted to avoid the collision by steering his truck into the median guardrail. The truck then lost control and traveled across the three northbound lanes, striking other motorcycles taking part in the United Bikers of Maine Toy Run. The pickup then overturned in its side. Gross was killed in the crash along with a second motorcyclist, Aaron White-Sevigny, 25, of Windsor. Troopers continue to investigate the crash and are attempting to determine why Gross veered into the other lane. That crash investigation is expected to take several weeks, McCausland wrote.

 AUGUSTA — State Police say two motorcyclists were killed on Sunday, September 10, in a collision with a pickup truck on Interstate 95 in Augusta. The crash occurred just after noon, and the northbound lanes were shut down for over two hours.

Four other persons were injured and transported to MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta. The crash took place between exits 112 and 113 in the northbound lanes. The bikes involved in the crash were part of several thousand motorcycles taking part in the annual United Bikers of Maine Toy Run, which had just started from the Augusta Civic Center, according to a media release from State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland.

The release said that Maine State Troopers reported that four motorcycles were involved in the collision with the pickup, which ended up on its side in a ditch off the highway. The motorcyclists who lost their lives in the crash have been identified by State Police as Jamie Gross, 58, of Belmont and Aaron White-Sevigny, 25, of Windsor. Gross died at the crash site and White-Sevigny died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Both were riding separate motorcycles.

Two other motorcyclists, a man and woman riding on the same bike, were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Trevor Proctor, 50, and his passenger, Tori McGraw, 46, were treated for road rash, according to State Police. Their hometowns were not immediately known. 

The driver of the pickup was identified as William Nusom, 67. His passenger was his mother, Anna Nusom, 99, both of Hollis. The two were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to State Police.

Augusta Police, the Maine Department of Transportation and the Maine Turnpike Authority assisted with rerouting traffic off the Interstate, as a team of Troopers investigated the crash. Augusta Fire Department ambulances were used to transport the injured to the hospital, which is a mile from the crash site. Augusta Police estimated less than a fourth of the 3,000 motorcycles involved in the toy run were ahead of the crash. The remaining motorcycles were detoured on outer Civic Center Drive, to make their way to the Windsor Fairgrounds.

Troopers continue to investigate the cause of the crash and have heard from several motorists who witnessed the crash. The pickup and the motorcycles were all headed north. The pickup was in the passing lane and the motorcycles were in the travel lanes.
