Thomaston Grammar School shakes its sillies out with concert and art

    Thomaston Grammar School held its annual Fine Arts Night May 25.  The entertainment portion of the event was split into three concerts led by music teacher, Angela Johnson.

    The first concert was for kindergarten and first grade.  Kindergarten students sang and performed movements to Shake Our Sillies Out, Spring Time, Sunshine, The More We Get Together, and Kindergarten Has Been Fun.  First grade students sang and performed movements to Down By the Bay, On Top of Spaghetti, Do Your Ears Hang Low, I’ve Got the Loose Tooth Blues, and more.  I’ve Got the Loose Tooth Blues was an original written by music teacher, Angela Johnson.  Then the two grade combined to perform I Love the Mountains and Bright Happy Day.

    The second concert was for second and third grade.  Second grade students sang and performed movements to Little Ol’ Cowboy, Home on the Range, She’ll be Coming Around the Mountain, and You Are My Sunshine.   Third grade students sang and performed movements to If I Only Had a Brain, Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’, and Tomorrow.  Then the two grades combined to perform We Know the Way and Try Everything.

    The third and final concert was for fourth and fifth grade.  Fourth grade students began the concert by performing Hot Cross Buns, Gently We Sleep, Merrily We Roll Along, and Recorder G Blues on their recorders.  Then the fifth grade band students performed MaryAnn, Medley of Song, Long, Long, Ago, Skip to My Lou, This Old Man, Hey Ho, Nobody Home, Frere Jacques, Theme on Ba Ba Black Sheep, Stodola Pumpa, and Ode to Joy.  Then the two grades combined to sing and perform movements to You’ve Got a Friend in Me, Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo, Hakuna Matata, Chim-Chim Cher-ee, and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.  There were multiple students in costume during these songs.  The final performance was to Beauty and the Beast with six pairs ballroom dancing while the rest of the students sang. 

    In addition to wonderful musical performances, there was also art work on display that students created throughout the year with art teacher, Janelle Eddy.  It was a magical evening for all who participated and all who attended.
