Site change announced for girls soccer state championship

Thu, 11/02/2017 - 1:15pm

The Maine Principals Association informed Camden Hills athletic director Steve Alex on Thursday, Nov. 2 there has been a location change for the Class A girls soccer state championship contest.

The game pitting Scarborough against Camden Hills was set to played at Hampden Academy Saturday, Nov. 4.

Now, the contest will instead be held at Deering High School in Portland with a 12:30 p.m. as noted in an email from Alex.

Here is the full statement from the MPA as posted by Alex to the school’s athletic department Facebook page

"In looking at the travel involved for the Class C schools going to Deering and the Class A schools going to Hampden Academy for this Saturday’s State Soccer Championships, we have decided to swap sites for Classes A and C. With this change Classes A and B will be at Deering and Classes C and D will be at Hampden Academy. The home and away teams and the game times will remain as scheduled. Hopefully people will understand that this switch was made to reduce travel and allow more people to attend our championships. I appreciate the cooperation from all of the 8 schools involved in making this happen and am confident that no advantages were gained, just a reduction in travel for many schools and their fans."
