Hope residents, Vote YES On Articles 4 and 6 To Prohibit Residential Metallic Mineral Mining

Mon, 01/15/2024 - 3:45pm

On January 16, 2024 the voters of Hope will have the opportunity to show their support for regulating and controlling industrial mining in our residential community of Hope Maine.

A special Town Meeting will be held at the Hope Elementary School (34 Highfield Rd) at 6 p.m. I am asking for your YES vote on Warrant Articles 4 and 6 prohibiting metallic mineral mining in our residential and village districts.

I am proud to announce that the Hope Planning and Select boards voted unanimously to amend Hopes Land Use Ordinance prohibiting residential mineral mining.

Assisted by CARMA (Citizens Against Residential Mining Activity) a group of residents that has come together from Union, Warren, and Hope to support regulation that meaningfully addresses the enduring attempts by foreign mining companies to secure mineral rights to mine our residential neighborhoods, together we are one step away from stopping them in Hope.

Now it is up to us, the residents of Hope, to let our voices be heard and cast our votes to protect the ponds, streams and drinking water essential to our way of life from Canadian mining interests that will recklessly exploit our mineral resources for profit while devastating our environment, water, and health callously indifferent to our safety and that of our children.

Clean, safe water, free of the toxic by-products of metallic mineral mining is not a political issue. Every man, woman and child in Hope will be affected. We must come together as a community to stop these mining efforts. Let this be our legacy.

Mark January 16, 2024 on your calendars and get out and vote Yes in favor of Warrant Articles 4 and 6 that amend Hope’s Land Use Ordinance prohibiting Residential Metallic Mineral Mining. See you then.
