Free estate planning workshops in Camden

    Learn what it takes to plan and protect your estate. Penbay Estate Planning Center is holding free spring and summer workshops at 66 Elm Street in downtown Camden. In response to the most popular inquiries, Attorney Jesse Bifulco has prepared a schedule of workshops to inform and empower people to be active participants in their own estate plan. Workshops being offered currently are: How to Protect your Stuff, Saving the Family Camp, Planning for your Pets, and Boomers in Business

    Each workshop helps attendees understand what can be done to plan and protect for their estate for themselves, spouses and their family, including pets. Bifulco is an estate planning attorney with more than 20 years of experience. He works with estate planning attorneys nationally to develop and implement the most effective estate planning techniques. He is admitted to the bars of both Maine and New York.

    The workshops, which are free and open to the public, will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays 6-8 p.m., May 10 – June 28.

    How to Protect Your Stuff

    This workshop answers the basic questions about estate planning documents, such as wills, powers of attorney and trusts. But it goes even further teaching with anecdotes how poor planning can tear a family apart. Some questions it answers: What is a power of attorney and do I need one? How can I protect my stuff from nursing homes? Divorce? Remarriage after I’m gone? Do I have to give my assets away to protect them? Attendees learn what it takes to make an estate plan that will not fail.

    Saving the Family Camp

    Camp, beach house, lake house, vacation home, whatever your family calls it, how do you plan for it? Without clear guidance, the cherished place of happy memories can become the focus of fighting between your heirs. Decisions about keeping the camp, or selling it, buy outs and add ins, whether they must share, or get exclusive time, schedules and upkeep and expenses are the topics of this Workshop. Learn how to make a plan that will prevent turmoil and let the good times roll.

    Planning for Your Pets

    If something happens to you, what will become of your pets? These non-human family members all too often are neglected in estate plans. Are pet trusts legal in Maine? Our faithful companions deserve to be a part of our estate plan. Learn the basic and advanced estate planning tools that can prevent the worst from happening to your non-human family members during a temporary disability or after you’re gone.

    Boomers in Business

    From Airbnbs to pottery wheels, learn what it takes to protect your assets, your estate, and profit at the same time. Whether you’re finally pursuing a lifelong passion or just supplementing your income with a profitable hobby, retirees and the newly entrepreneurial need to learn the legal ins and outs of starting a new business. This program covers all the basics, how to protect your assets, entity selection, tax and social security consequences, and important contract provisions to watch out for. Although this is geared toward people starting a business in retirement, it is suitable for anyone venturing out into the world of business ownership for the first time.
