CAMDEN — Camden Select Board Chairman John French Thursday confirmed that the town’s finance director, Virginia Lindsay, is no longer employed with the town. French also said that the search for a new town manager continues.

In February, Camden began reviewing resumes and interviewing candidates for the town manager position, after former town manager, Patricia Finnigan, resigned Jan. 18. She was hired in the fall of 2011 to replace former town manager Roberta Smith, who retired that year.

Following Finnigan’s resignation, Smith, agreed to step in as interim town manager until Camden found a new town manager.

Late last month, following an executive session on May 25 to talk about the the town manager search, Select Board member Don White said it was expected that the town would have an announcement about the search. But that announcement never happened and the town remains without a town manager, though the town’s business continues to chug along under Smith’s leadership.

French said Thursday that an offer had been made last month to one of the candidates for the job, “but it did not work out.” He added that the Board is again interviewing candidates.

Also Thursday, White, who serves as chairman of the Town Manager Search Committee, said that the search is continuing, but that the town has not gone out and advertised the position again.

While the town has been searching for a new town manager since February, there is news today that finance director Virginia Lindsey is no longer employed with the town.

French would not say anymore about that decision, and Smith was not available to comment.

Lindsey was brought forward for the position by Finnigan, and the Select Board approved her being hired April 5, 2016. Lindsey replaced former finance director Carol Sue Greenleaf, who retired after having been finance director in Camden for 29 years. Prior to that, Lindsey worked for the City of Rockland for a year, following nine years as the finance director in Rockport.
