Camden Hills fends off Oceanside

Wickenden keeps Oceanside bats at bay for complete game win

ROCKPORT – The Camden Hills (2-0) baseball team hosted Oceanside (0-2) Friday afternoon handing the Mariners a 3-1 loss.

Camden Hills has started the season on a high note now defeating two local rivals having won Wednesday, April 22 over Medomak Valley before picking up the win Friday.

The Windjammers will continue play Monday, April 27 when they travel to Lincoln Academy of Newcastle for a 4 p.m. start time. Oceanside will make the trip to Mount View of Thorndike the same day.

In Friday’s game the Windjammers scored one run in the second inning and two more in the third. Oceanside scored its lone run in the seventh inning and left the tying runs on the bases to end the game.

Daulton Wickenden pitched for Camden Hills allowing one unearned run on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Ryan Allender toed the rubber for the Mariners Friday, pitching six innings allowing three runs, two earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four.

At the plate for the Windjammers, Kyle Crans (2 singles, run), Dalton Oakes (2 singles, run), Ben Rollins (single, RBI), Wickenden (double) and Andrew Hall (single, RBI).

For Oceanside, Zach Peaco led the charge with a pair of singles while Jimmy Strong and Walker Ranney both singled in the seventh inning to led the failed comeback attempt.

Oceanside has struggled early, with only eight hits in two games which makes it hard to score leading to their one run in 14 innings. Pitching for the Mariners has been solid. Mazurek was lights out Wednesday other than one mistake that cost him. Allender today pitched very well, but both are now 0-1 on the season.

Camden Hills has won two games with 15 hits scoring five runs in 12 innings. They also have received some solid pitching with Rollins going seven and Wickenden doing the same Friday. The two combined have not allowed an earned run in the first two games.
