BELFAST — With temperatures in the high 60s and sunny skies, it was a picture perfect day on Belfast’s waterfront Sept. 9 for the 18th annual Wienerfest.

The event, which was held at Steamboat Landing Park, drew visitors from as far as Hawaii, California, and Oregon, all happy to mill amongst the hundreds of four-legged visitors.

With more than 130 dachshunds walking in the parade, it took nearly 10 minutes for the entire line to meander from the Boathouse across Steamboat Landing and back again, all while being cheered on by a crowd of smiling faces.

Other attractions at the event, which ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., included a Doxie Derby and costume contest.

The costume contest was forced to cap its participants at 32, though there were even more dazzlingly dressed doxies in the crowd.

This year’s Wienerfest drew more visitors than any other year, according to event organizers.

With summer slipping away and the crowded harbors thinning, a sunny day amongst doxies was the perfect way for hundreds to spend a Sunday.
