Pet python missing again in Camden

Tue, 08/07/2018 - 7:45am

CAMDEN — A ball python, who resides in a home on Sea Street in Camden and was reported missing Aug. 3, has yet to been found.

Camden Police received a report from the owner around 5:30 p.m. about the missing snake, which is four-feet long.

Patrol Officer Mark Bennett searched the home and the property and on Monday, Aug. 6, Animal Control Officer Scott Entwistle did the same, but did not locate the python, according to Jeff Sukeforth, administrative assistant at the department.

“The snake may possibly still be in the house since it roams free,” Sukeforth added.

It was less than a year ago when the same python was missing.

In September 2017 the owner reported to police that the snake had been missing for about a month. It was located in a garden on nearby Eaton Street by a woman who was weeding her garden.

The python was captured by police without incident and transported to the Pope Memorial Society in Thomaston. It was reunited with its owner the next day.

Sukeforth said that neighbors with cat or dogs should not worry about the lose python, since the largest animal this type of snake will eat is a mouse.

Wikipedia describes this type of python as a popular pet, largely due to its size and typically docile temperament. They also said it usually will curl into a ball when stressed or frightened.

Police ask that if anyone locates the snake to call the Knox Regional Communications Center at 236-3030.
