Midcoast Hiking Trails

Here are some of the many hiking trails located here in the midcoast.

Please be sure to bring any trash you make out with you to keep the trails in tip top shape.

Bald Mountain Preserve - Camden - over 600 acres of forest that leads to the peak of Bald Mountain. The peak offers one of the best views of Penobscot Bay and Camden Hills.

Bald Rock Mountain (Camden Hills State Park) - Lincolnville - One of the best hiking areas in the midcoast, this trail is well maintained and offers many opportunities to view the abundance of wildlife and birds.

Beech Hill Preserve - Rockport - An easy hike up to the top on well maintained trails takes a couple of hours, unless you are into birds, with over 100 different species the hike can take a lot longer.

Ducktrap River Preserve - Lincolnville - A great destination for hikers, skiers, birders, and fisherman alike. The trail goes for 4 miles. Some excellent cross country skiing trails also are part of the preserve.

Fernalds Neck Preserve - Camden - There are miles of walking trails available for the general public that run through a dense softwood forest. There are also many areas where hikers and walkers alike can take in the shores of one of Maine's best small lakes. The preserve itself tends to be overlooked by hikers that are visiting the area which means that you can hike in relative peace and quiet.

Georges Highland Path - Midcoast - Hiking maps and information about the Georges Highland Path are available by calling the Georges River Land Trust at 594-5166 or visiting their offices at 8 North Main Street in Rockland, Maine.

Hatchet Mountain Preserve - Hope - At the summit you will be 1,100 feet above sea level and have a great view of Camden Hills and Penobscot Bay.

Maiden's Cliff - Camden - An easy hike with a tremendous view of Megunticook Lake, Be careful to take the right path at the fork or you might find your climb to the top much more difficult then you planned on.

Mount Battie Trail - Camden - Open from May to November this trail offers a great alternative to driving up the mountain. At the top you will have the best known view of Camden Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean.

Mount Megunticook Trail - Camden - Mount Megunticook is the tallest of all of the Camden Hills. It also is the highest mainland mountain on the entire Atlantic Coast. Ocean Lookout gives guests one of the most impressive ocean vistas in the entire Northeast.

Ragged Mountain - Camden - This is a great afternoon hike leading to a great view of Rockland and Rockport Harbors as well as offering many wonderful photo opportunities along the way. Plan on an afternoon to really appreciate what this hike has to offer.

Rockland Breakwater - Rockland - One of the most visited sites in the midcoast. The man made breakwater is a 2 mile round trip with unprecedented views of islands and the Atlantic Ocean. The Breakwater Light at the end helps to guide ships into Rockland Harbor.

Tanglewood - Linconville - Spring and summer makes this a great bird watchers hike while in the winter months snowshoeing becomes the attraction of this 2.3 mile looping trail.
