Maine State and Bucksport Police have arrested a Bucksport woman and charged her with murder in connection with the death of a two year old girl in 2017, according to a news release from the Maine Dept. of Public Safety.

The state said Savannah Smith, 21, was arrested at the Spring Fountain Motel in Bucksport just after 6 p.m. April 4 . She had been indicted earlier in the day by a Hancock County grand jury.

Smith is charged in the death of 2-year-old Kloe Hawksley.

Smith was the partner of the child's father, Tyler Hawksley, police said.

Kloe was found dead inside a home at 264 Central Street in Bucksport after a 911 call of an unresponsive child at the home on October 18, 2017.

State and Bucksport police have investigated the death since that time.  Smith was taken to the Hancock County Jail and will likely be in court either Friday or Monday.
