Waldoboro woman crowned Maine Wild Blueberry Queen at Union Fair

UNION — Maine’s 2018 Wild Blueberry Queen was crowned Aug. 20 at the Union Fair, amidst the fanfare of the Midcoast’s annual agricultural fair.

Whitney Helene Dow, of Waldoboro, is the 2018 Wild Blueberry Queen. The Crown Princess is Sierra Nicole Beal, of Tenants Harbor, and Jordan Lee Brackett, of Owls Head, is Miss Congeniality.

The Blueberry Queen is the designated ambassador of the Maine wild blueberry industry and appearances by the queen are designed to promote Maine's wild blueberries and Union Fair. The queen appears in statewide parades, special state events, various charitable events and has an opportunity to tour blueberry processing plants. 

Contestants are to be between the ages of 17-22, single, and a Maine resident.

Wild Blueberry Queen Dow is a 2017 graduate of Medomak Valley High School and is currently attending medical school at the University of New England. She hopes to become a pediatrician.

She was sponsored by Howe Cunningham and Shelley’s Flowers, of Waldoboro, as well as the fishing vessel Fair Game, home-ported in Spruce Head.

Crown Princess Beal is a 2017 graduate of Oceanside High School, and attends the University of Maine at Orono. She was sponsored by Blueberry Ridge Farm, in Appleton.

Miss Congeniality Brackett is a 2013 graduate of Oceanside High School, in Rockland, and attends the University of Maine at Augusta. She is studying to be a nurse. She was sponsored by Coastal Blueberries.
