Waldoboro Police beat: Gasoline drive-off, stolen washer and dryer, accidents

    WALDOBORO — Waldoboro police responded to 201 calls for service from March 12-21. Listed below are a few of the highlights. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

    March 13                    

    Zachariah Harvey, 25, of Camden, was issued a summons by Officer Dwight Jones for failure to show proof of insurance.                 

    Officer Nathaniel Jack is investigating a report from a citizen that his mailbox was knocked down, possibly by a plow.

    Jack is investigating a report from a citizen who reported that she found her garage door open and the back door of her garage open. Nothing appeared to be missing.

    March 14   

    Jack investigated an accident at the intersection of the Atlantic Highway and Main Street, at 3:15 p.m. Shawn Rolfe, 48, of Bath, was driving a 2007 Ford sedan. James Augustine, 73, of Thomaston, was driving a 2018 GMC utility vehicle. Rolfe was traveling northbound following the roadway and failed to yield the right of way to Augustine, who was traveling eastbound following the roadway on the Atlantic Highway. No injuries were reported.

    March 15                                          

    Jack investigated an accident at the intersection of Atlantic Highway/Kaler’s Corner/Winslows Mills Road, at 9:52 p.m. The information for the first vehicle and driver is unknown. The second vehicle, a 2013 Mazda sedan, was driven by Nicholas Soderberg, 30, of Waterford, N.Y. The first vehicle, with the unknown operator, was traveling northbound on Atlantic Highway, switched to the right lane, striking Soderberg’s vehicle in the rear, made a right turn and took off. Soderberg was traveling northbound, following the roadway and stopped in traffic. No injuries were reported.

    March 16   

    Sgt. Jamie Wilson is investigating a report from a service station about a $37.48 gasoline drive off.

    March 18

    Officer Andrew Santheson is investigating a report from a citizen about a stolen washer and dryer.

    March 19   

    Jack investigated an accident at the Winslows Mills/North Nobleboro Road intersection at 12:28 p.m. Norman Weymouth, 85, of West Gardiner, was driving a 2010 Lincoln utility vehicle. Pauline Bragg, 81, of Waldoboro, was driving a 2015 Ford sedan. Weymouth was traveling northbound, making a left turn and failed to yield right of way, colliding with Bragg’s vehicle head-on. Bragg was traveling southbound, following the roadway. Injuries were reported for Weymouth and his passenger.

    Norman Weymouth, 85, of Gardiner, was issued a summons for failure to yield the right of way.

    March 20                    

    Carl Luoma, 31, of Edgecomb, was issued a summons by Officer Thomas Bartunek for speed.                  

    Caitlin Brekenfeld, 18, of Waldoboro, was issued a summons by Bartunek for operating without a license and failure to register a motor vehicle.
