Waldo Theatre to host work day November 3
WALDOBORO — The Waldo Theatre invites the public to a community work day on Saturday, November 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine. Major goals for the day are to put the grounds to bed for the winter, and prepare the interior for restoration work that will begin in 2019.
The grounds cleanup will include removal of saplings and debris, raking leaves, and assisting with vine removal from brickwork on the back of the building. This work will require rakes, shovels, pruners and work gloves. Interior work will include removing a stage addition, sheetrock, and interior rugs, which will need to be rolled and taken to the transfer station. This will be heavy work requiring hammers, screw guns with multiple tips, shop vacs and other equipment. In addition, damaged plaster and paint in a number of areas needs to be scraped and cleaned up.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring trucks (for transporting old carpeting and debris to the dump). Waldo board members will provide refreshments.
The Waldo Theatre board is committed to restoring the historic Waldo Theatre and developing a self-sustaining and vibrant performing and visual arts program for the greater Waldoboro area. The board has had a busy year raising funds for brick repair and a new roof, which is slated to go on later in the fall. Stay tuned for information about The Waldo’s upcoming musical celebration of winter concert on December 8 at Broad Bay Church.
