UPDATED: U.S. Senate candidate Ringelstein arrested outside Texas detention center

    MCALLEN, TEXAS— Zak Ringelstein, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Maine, was released from jail about 3 a.m. EST Saturday, June 23 according to a news release from Ringelstein for Maine.

    "Jail is terrible," Ringelstein said, "but my experience was nothing compared to the children and families who are jailed indefinitely."

    Ringelstein, who was arrested after attempting to deliver water, food, blankets, books, and toys to children imprisoned in McAllen, posted $1,000 bond and faces a charge of criminal trespass. If convicted of the Class B misdemeanor, he could face up to six months in county jail and a $2,000 fine, according to the release.


    MCALLEN, TEXAS — U.S. Senate candidate Zak Ringelstein of Yarmouth, was arrested on the morning of Friday, June 22, outside a detention center in McAllen, Texas, according to a news release from Ringelstein for Maine. 

    Ringelstein, 31, was attempting to deliver water, food, blankets, books, and toys to the children detained at the border and separated from their families.

    At this time, the specific charges are not known. There has been no communication from Ringelstein since his arrest about 9:30 a.m. EST, according to the release.
