UPDATED: Rockland man arrested for sexual assault of a minor

    UPDATED (Feb. 22) — A man arrested by Rockland Police Feb. 16 for Class A gross sexual assault, remains in the Knox County Jail.  

    Richard Squires, 37, made his initial court appearance in Knox County Unified Court before Judge Susan Sparaco Feb. 19. His bail was set at $5,000 cash.

    Once Squires posts bail, he will be on supervised release and cannot have any contact with children under the age of 16, the victim, and the victim’s father.

    According to the police affidavit filed by Rockland Police Detective Joel Neal, the father of the victim, who is a 13-year-old male, alerted police about the alleged assault after he received a text message by mistake from his son, who intended to send it to Squires.

    During their investigation, Rockland Police found numerous text messages of a sexual nature between the victim and Squires on the teenager’s cell phone.

    Squires will appear in court again March 28.


    ROCKLAND — A Rockland man has been arrested for alleged gross sexual assault of a minor, according to Rockland Police.

    On February 16, Rockland Police received information from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office regarding a 13-year-old male who had been sexually assaulted by a 37-year-old male.

    It was alleged that this assault took place in Rockland.

    The victim in this case was be taken by his parents to the hospital so that a sexual assault forensic examination could be conducted, according to the Police, in a news release.

    Detectives from the Rockland Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division responded to investigate the complaint.  As a result, Richard Squires, 37, of Rockland was arrested for Class A Gross Sexual Assault.

    Squires was taken to the Knox County Jail where he was booked on the charge.
