UPDATE: Police seek suspect who robbed Unity storekeeper at gunpoint Christmas Eve

     On December 24, 2017 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Waldo County Communication Center received a 911 call from 145 School Street in Unity, which is the Family Dollar Store. It was reported that the store’s cashier had been robbed at gunpoint.

    Employees reported that a male suspect, identified as a white male, approximately 5 feet, eight inches tall, with a thin build, entered the Family Dollar Store wearing dark clothing and had his face covered with a mask. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded the money from the cash register. The cashier complied with the suspect’s demands and the suspect left the store with the cash.

    Law enforcement personnel from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and were assisted by the Maine State Police. No arrest have been made at this time. Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office at 207-338-2040.

    The cashier turned over an unreported amount of money and the suspect fled the scene on foot. Police deployed a tracking dog, however, there was no success in locating the individual. This incident remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office said on Dec. 26.
