Tibbetts stole the Dexter cruiser about 11:30 while still in handcuffs.  It was found abandoned a couple of miles away about 90 minutes later.

Police later found him behind the wheel of a second vehicle and chased the car along Route 15 until it crashed.   Tibbetts was alone and it is not clear how he obtained the second vehicle.  No officers were injured in today’s incident.
