CAMDEN — United Midcoast Charities has been designated as a “2018 Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews of charities and nonprofits, according to a news release.

The Top-Rated Nonprofit Award is based on the rating and number of reviews UMC received from volunteers, donors and aid recipients. This is the second consecutive year in which UMC has received this honor.

United Midcoast Charities’ mission is to energize Midcoast Maine nonprofit agencies through finance and guidance, supporting a network of resources stronger than any single organization.

“We are honored to once again be recognized as a Top-Rated Nonprofit,” said Megan Williams, UMC executive director, in the release. “We are proud of our accomplishments this year, including awarding $500,000 in grants to 44 local nonprofits and making access to national grants databases available to all.”

Deb Meehan, director of the University of Maine at Augusta Rockland Center, said: “United Midcoast Charities is a locally run and locally focused nonprofit with a remarkable history of positive impact. UMC coordinates the best intentions and the generous resources of donors and focuses them on the greatest community needs.

“This coordination of donors and receivers eliminates redundancy and results in the best possible impact. In the past year the organization has evolved in its vision and is becoming not only a source of funds to local nonprofits but also a source of professional development. Thank you UMC for making Midcoast Maine a better place to live!”

“United Midcoast Charities is a great example of a nonprofit making a real difference in their community,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, in the release. “Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work, but of the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working with UMC.”

GreatNonprofits is the leading website where people share stories about their personal experiences with more than 1.6 million charities and nonprofits. The GreatNonprofits Top-Rated Awards are the only awards for nonprofits determined by those who have direct experience with the charities – as donors, volunteers and recipients of aid.
