Wed, 10/10/2018 - 6:30pm

YORK — The U13 Pen Bay boys soccer team won the Harvest Cup for the third straight year during the Columbus Day weekend hosted by York Soccer Club.

Pen Bay advanced to the semifinals after defeating Marshwood-Melino (4-0), York (7-0) and Kittery (4-0) in group play.

Aiden Aselton and Cam Brown scored two goals each in the Marshwood-Melino game. Brown, Will Duke and Vishal Mellor each scored twice, while Owen McManus scored once in the York game. Mellor scored twice, while Charlie Pons and Eric LeBlond each scored once in the Kittery game.

In the semifinals, Pen Bay received a 4-0 forfeit victory after their opponent, the Timberwolves, failed to show up for the match. A computer error in group standings left the Timberwolves under the impression they had been eliminated, hence their absence from the tournament facility the morning of the semifinals.

The championship featured Pen Bay and Marshwood-Melino. Cam Brown scored all the goals for the locals in a 3-1 win to secure the trophy.

It was a great weekend for the players and parents to bond and get to know each other better. The games were challenging and the final was a very tough encounter against a very good team. The team as a whole were disciplined and worked very well together throughout the tournament.

The Pen Bay team consisted of Ryan Anderson, Will Duke, Karl Hokkanen, Eric LeBlond, Vishal Mellor, Charlie Pons, Harrison Garcia, Alex Todd, Travis Dube, Miles Murray, Griffin Dubrow, Owen McManus, Aiden Aselton, Liam O’Dwyer and Cam Brown. The team was coached by Patrick Mellor, Scott Pons and Dwight Pitcairn.
