BELFAST — Two vehicles were towed from the scene following an accident near Belfast's Route 1 jug-handle, which allows southbound vehicles to turn left onto Northport Avenue without obstructing the flow of traffic.

A Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by Joseph Chadwick was traveling northbound on Route 1 when a vehicle turning left from Northport Avenue pulled in front of him, leading to a collision, according to Officer Frank Gormley, of the Belfast Police Department.

That vehicle, a Land Rover operated by Sandra Gregory, sustained serious damage to its front end after colliding with the front passenger corner of Chadwick's vehicle.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Neither driver was injured in the crash, though Chadwick said he would have to wait until tomorrow to see how his bad back reacts to the incident.

The flow of traffic slowed intermittently as a member of the Belfast Fire Department directed traffic to allow traffic to enter Route 1 from Northport Avenue.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles and are local to Waldo County.
