APPLETON — LifeFlight of Maine was called to Appleton, Friday, May 24, after an injured person was found near Appleton Ridge.

By tracing a cell phone call, and with knowing only that someone had suffered a gunshot wound near the Ridge, dispatchers at Knox County Regional Communications Center narrowed down the vicinity in which deputies for the Knox County Sheriff’s Office should search.

For a short time, deputies were unable to locate the individual, according to the KSO, in a news release. However, continued tracking of the open cell phone line by dispatchers eventually helped deputies zero in.

The individual had attempted to end his life, but was conscious at the time that Union Rescue arrived.

Appleton Fire Department assisted with the incident by setting up a landing zone.
