ROCKLAND — A South Thomaston man remains at the Knox County Jail after he was arrested for allegedly striking and attempting to strangle a woman and then threatening a police officer who responded to the scene.

Tyler Gricus, 32, was arrested May 10 and charged with aggravated assault, assault on an officer, criminal threatening, violating a condition of release and refusing to submit to arrest.

Gricus appeared in Knox County Unified Court before Judge Susan Sparaco May 13. His bail was set at $2,500 cash with no third party bail allowed. Gricus is currently on an active set of bail conditions from a previous arrest.

According to the affidavit filed in court by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to a report of a woman allegedly being assaulted by Gricus. The victim told police that the suspect struck her in the head and put his hands around her neck.

Deputy Jacob Labo confirmed in the affidavit that he saw bump on the victim’s head and a mark on her neck. She was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for treatment.

Police went to Gricus’ residence to question him about the alleged assault. They noted in the affidavit that he appeared to be intoxicated.

He resisted arrest and struggled with police and then grabbed a socket wrench from a nearby tool box and said that he was going to kill the officer.

Police were able to get possession of the wrench and Gricus was placed in handcuffs and transported to the Knox County Jail.

He will appear in court again June 27 for a dispositional conference.
