SOUTH THOMASTON — The South Thomaston Select Board appointed Owen Casas as its new town administrator Dec. 11 at a regularly scheduled meeting. Casas is to begin his new job on Monday, working a four-day week, plus meetings.

He will replace outgoing administrator Terri-Lynn Baines, who is taking a new position in another town.

Casas said Dec. 11 that he looks forward to using his experience in municipal and state government, as well as his educational background in organizational development, to continue work that previous South Thomaston administrators have set in motion.

“I am excited to get to work,” he said. “There are several interesting items coming down the pike in South Thomaston."

Casas served three years on the Rockport Select Board, a term in the Maine House of Representatives representing Camden, Islesboro and Rockport, and is currently chairman of the Mid-Coast Solid Waste Corp. Board of Directors. He also serves on the Rockport Budget Committee.

South Thomaston, a town with a population of approximately 1,500 residents, has an active volunteer fire department and emergency ambulance service, and is lead by a three-person select board. The town borders both the St. George River and Penobscot Bay, and is home to the reversing tidal river, Wessaweskeag, now called Weskeag, meaning "tidal creek.”

Casas lives in Rockport with his wife, Marci, and three children.
