Midcoast Maine — as well as Western and Central Maine — is under a winter storm warning from midday Wednesday, Feb. 7 through 3 a.m. Thursday morning. Heavy snow is anticipated, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow is to become heavy at times, and over coastal Maine there may be sleet and rain creeping in. The fast-moving system is to move through Maine and toward the Maritimes.

Total accumulations of nine to 12 inches are in the forecast, with snow falling at one to three inches per hour.  Most accumulations will range from eight to 12 inches inland and in the mountains; along the coast, there is to be six to 10 inches.

Temperatures are to bottom out in the single digits and teens, except along the coast, where they will hover in the lower 20s.
