ROCKPORT — Sergeant Matthew Lindahl, left this world, far too soon at age 44, following a heroic battle with cancer, Friday, April 26, 2019.

Matt grew up locally, graduating from Camden Rockport High School and later Paul Smith’s College in New York.

He had a love of nature from an early age that started with rock climbing. He loved sharing his love of the outdoors with his family, especially his children. Together they enjoyed camping and fishing trips, and Matt would often wake them up to see meteor showers or eclipses. He even took them to the breakwater park during a storm so they could experience the fury of the ocean. Matt’s number one priority in life was his family, they were his whole world.

When not spending time with his family, Matt served proudly on the Rockland Police Department. In the words of his fellow officers, Matt was ‘the greatest practical joker in the department, while still being a consummate professional and his actions on duty saved lives’….. ‘He didn’t want glory, applause or even a pat on the back. He was content just doing whatever it took to help people.’

Matt will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Matt is survived by his loving family which includes his wife, children, mother, siblings and other extended family members.

A private memorial service was held.

In lieu of flowers, an education fund has been established for his children.

Gifts and donations may be sent to UBS Financial Services, Inc., P.O. Box 7350, Portland, ME 04412-9912, ATTN: Tammy Kelly.  Please makes checks payable to UBS financial services and write Lindahl Education Fund in the memo line.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.
