ROCKLAND — Rockland Public Library recognizes April 2019’s Poetry Month through a contest, an open mic night, a workshop, and a women’s sharing time.

Book Spine Poetry Contest open until Monday, April 15

Get playful with books and poetry by using the title on book spines to create a poem. Use books from your home or school library, local bookshop (with permission, of course), your place of business, or the library. Stack them up in order to “write” your poem.

Go to the front page of rocklandlibrary.org for a link to full instructions.

    Women’s Poetry Share

    Monday, April 8, at 6 p.m.

Join Interim Poet Laureate Mary Jane Martin in her second poetry share. This time it’s all about women.

Share your issues, concerns, fears or loves for yourself or the women in your life via poetry. Bring your own poem or read a favorite by another.

Men are encouraged to join the conversation, too.

    No registration required.

Poetry workshop: Turning Your Personal Stories into Poems

    Tuesday, April 23, at 6 p.m.

Former Rockland Poet Laureate Carol Bachofner presents a new workshop to get your creative energy flowing. Bachofner will lead people in writing narrative poems in two forms, free verse and prose poems, while reflecting on personal or family stories, memories, and moments.

    Poetry Month Open Mic Night

    Thursday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m.

Calling all poets! Share your poems. The Library invites you to help celebrate all things poetry with this Open Mic Night.

Musical accompaniment is welcome: bring your best, funniest, most heartfelt, or reflective work.

Sign-ups start April 1, and poets will each have up to 10 minutes of poetry fame.

Call Jessie Blanchard at 594-0310 to sign up.

This year will also feature a video presentation of all the Book Spine Poetry Contest entries, and refreshments will be served.
