CAMDEN — Ashley B. Dudley, RN, interim director of nursing at Quarry Hill in Camden, has been selected to serve on the Maine State Board of Nursing. Her four-year term on the Board began in August.

Dudley represents the perspective of Maine’s long-term-care nurses on the nine-member Board. During her term, she will participate in all aspects of the Board’s work, including formulating the rules that govern nursing practice in the state, auditing Maine’s 15 nurse-training programs, and resolving issues surrounding the practice of individual nurses as they arise.

Dudley’s career at Quarry Hill has prepared her well for Board service, according to a news release. She began at the Camden senior-living community as a floor nurse in 2015, becoming assistant director of nursing in 2016.

Named interim director in May 2018, she is now responsible for ensuring that Quarry Hill meets the highest standards of nursing care; maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations; and providing education, supervision, and support for clinical staff.

The freshman appointee submitted her application to fill an opening on the Board in July, having spent several months completing the rigorous eligibility requirements. She’s excited about taking on her new duties.

“I see it as an opportunity to make a positive difference in nursing in Maine while improving my own practice as a nurse by enlarging my perspective,” she said in the release.

Dudley holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Husson College in Bangor and a degree in nursing from the University of Maine in Augusta. She is currently preparing to sit for an examination to become board-certified in gerontological nursing.
